The AICTE-Technical Book Writing & Translation is a Scheme that was launched to build a strong technical knowledge base in India’s scheduled regional languages and to support authors, translators and reviewers financially. The scheme funds original technical books and translations for diploma and undergraduate – UG courses, and it aligns with the National Education Policy NEP 2020 objective of promoting technical education in Indian languages. This initiative invites experienced faculty and researchers from AICTE-approved institutions to author, translate or review textbooks in any of the 12 scheduled regional languages listed under the scheme.

Languages included in this scheme

The AICTE-Technical Book Writing & Translation Scheme covers these 12 scheduled regional languages: Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The list was selected to prioritise languages used for technical instruction across states.

Who can apply? — Eligibility Requirements

  1. Faculty (working or retired) of AICTE-approved institutions including Degree, Diploma, Pharmacy, Management and Architecture colleges.
  2. Researchers affiliated with AICTE-approved institutions.
  3. Proposed authors must demonstrate strong subject command and fluency in the chosen regional language.
  4. Applicants should have a proven academic record and prior recognition for similar scholarly work.

How to apply

  1. Visit the AICTE website and locate the Staff Development Schemes section under Schemes to download the Technical Book Writing & Translation application form.
  2. Fill the application carefully, ensure every page is signed and stamped by the Head of the Institute, attach all required documents including academic credentials, book synopsis and mandate form, and prepare a hard copy for offline submission.
  3. Send the completed application and enclosures by registered post / speed post to the address specified by AICTE (Adviser, RIFD, AICTE, Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi – 110070) or as per the current instructions on the AICTE scheme page. Keep proof of dispatch and a scanned copy of the package for institutional records.

Selection, review and quality checks

AICTE assigns domain experts and technical universities to invite expressions of interest, shortlist authors/translators and manage peer review of submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts undergo technical review and language review before approval for funding or translation assignment. Priority is often given to subjects already taught in the regional language at local institutions.
